Mangalore: Ban Valentine's Day, promote Indian culture - HJS

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Feb 12: With only two days to go for Valentine's Day, the Hindu Janajagruta Samiti, as in the past years, has issued a warning against celebrating the day that is dedicated to lovers.

Prasanna Kamath, co-ordinator of HJS DK unit in a media release termed the practice of celebrating Valentine's Day as 'disgusting'.

"Some of the colleges, schools, and tourist places in India are still celebrating Valentine's Day, and multi-national companies for their own benefit sell gift items and mislead the young Indian generation by promoting the meaningless Valentine's Day," the release stated.

"Hence, the government, in order to alleviate the adverse impact of celebrating Valentine's Day, should create awareness among youngsters in colleges and schools and ban Valentine's Day itself, and encourage celebration of those occasions that promote Indian culture. The youngsters should not allow themselve to be lured by such superficial attractions," stated the media release by Prasanna Kamath.

"Malaysia and other some countries have banned Valentine's Day. Chhattisgarh state government has also banned it, and instead February 14 is celebrated as 'Parents' Day' in that state. Every state should immediately ban this practice, and promote only Indian culture," the media release states.

"Even the Roman Catholic Church has said that there is not enough proof on St Valentine, and so the Church has removed the day's celebration from its calendar. Hence, there is no meaning in celebrating this day anymore," it further states.

HJS has demanded Karnataka state government to ban Valentine's Day, and encourage the young generation to strictly follow Indian culture.

St. Valentine was noble soul and a Catholic priest. Who risked his life for the betterment of the young couples defying the orders of his king and blessing the marriages of the lovers. Pope Francis is going to spend his day with engaged couples and bless them. Thus St. Valentine is still very relevant.

Just wanted to comment on few comments here, which i found not really right in reality. "If you want others not to be racist, learn first how you should be non- racist". If you comment negatively on someone's belief or culture, its you who start to become racist. Learn to co-exist with different belief/Culture. We don't carry our land, culture when we die, nor we belonged to INDIA or its culture before we were born. Learn to make our mother country peaceful for every human, no matter which race they are from. And it is also an individual's right to celebrate his belief if that doesn't hurt physically to himself or others.

If you don't understand what i just commented, its obvious only your far generation will understand.

Chattisgarh is celebrating parents' day on Feb 14! how do they celebrate it as per Indian culture? Husband comes home drunk and beats his wife and children? I guess this is what Indian culture is all about. The true meaning of Valentine's day is love, not necessarily between two lovers of the opposite sex, but also between father-child, mother-child, teacher-student, etc. unfortunately, in our Indian society love is equal to sex and nothing beyond!

Today we are blindly following the western culture under the name of 'Valentines Day'. The young students of schools and colleges are falling prey to such culture and express their love to each other by way of exchanging greeting cards. But actually speaking it is not love, but a mere attraction to the opposite sex at a tender and immature age.

The time has come when all the people, including the young generation have to be explained about the depth in the divine meaning of Love. It is the need of the hour that those national heroes who have sacrificed so much for the love of this Hindu land ought to be remembered not only for the benefit of the young generation, but also for the whole population to get ready for the protection of our languages, our Nation and our Dharma. Therefore do celebrate the following remembrance day program in February !

No, Valentines should not be celebrated.

Love isn't something that is based on time. You can always show or never show love. It should not be based on a day where people are asked to buy things and do things to "prove their love". Just because a man does not buy his wife flowers on February 14th, does not mean that this woman whom he has been married to for forty years, he suddenly does not love.

It is not only one day (14FEB14) is to love each other. We have loved each other 365 days, then only will become a good human being. All the days, murmuring with Indian culture. Just let them decide what Indian culture is first. Is hating each other, rape, goondaism, murder, cheating , corruption ...etc. are the INDIAN culture ? We can earn money from western and GCC countries, but we should not learn and practice their culture. Just think why people adopting other countries culture? How they were giving a peaceful life to the people? These jaundices people seeing every were yellow only and also spreading to their next generation. Love insulin is must to avoid these jaundices. At least let the people love one day to start keep on loving each other forever. Then only we can promise a peaceful tomorrow to our next generation. Jai Hind.

Its all due to these 3rd rated, 4th class jobless "Sanskari Goondas" who at the end of the day get a bottle of cheap liquor and some meat after all this circus.

Mangaloreans & Udupites need to realize that if we need to attract investment and trade into the region, then we need to kick out such radical, semi-literate and anti social Sanghi thugs otherwise ordinary Mangaloreans like us will suffer.

It's same as love at first sight. If the westerners called the same as Valentines day what's your problem? Red carnations mean admiration, White carnations mean pure love, Red chrysanthemums mean love, forget-me-nots mean true love, Primrose means young love, Larkspur means an open heart and Orange roses are specially flowers that are given to Sri Ram Sena, HJS and all the orange outfit in Mngalore that can spill hatred among people...

I really like Valentine day, as this day is for married couples or a male and female pair who are definite of getting married. Besides these, any one celebrating Valentines day, especially the under-aged are aiming for sex benefits/ favors, more of the time taking ill advantage of a poor or a naive girl. This day is even celebrated by gays and lesbians, who marry persons of the same sex, I do not understand why! Also, Rakhee Bandhan is a celebration meant for for brother and sister, not for anyone outside the family. Both these festivities need to be closely monitored by parents so that their daughter does not get abused and their son does not abuse anyone...

Love is like a master key that opens the gate of happiness. There is no religion for love, it takes place with anybody at any moment of time. We can restrict ourselves, but not others on this matter.

    LOVE
How on earth are you ever going to explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love?” — Albert Einstein "Love is difficult to define. How do you avoid confusing it with infatuation or lust? Philosophers and psychologists both have attempted to define love, per least its difference from infatuation and lust. If you are looking to find love, the following observations may be helpful. Love is much more than a risk, but is a risk that one can take and grasp and fall into a dark abyss or dig oneself a hole and only crawl back when you overcome your emotions. How can one truly define what love is? Not even an experienced person can truly grasp or explain love to its truest and deepest meaning. Its concepts are just a never ending story of an open book of experiences. But love does lie in one's heart, where memories are but shadows lingering in your soul.

    Recycling of Toxic. Waste
Adil Saab choose your style .......
Many hazardous Toxic wastes can be recycled into new products. Examples might include lead-acid batteries or electronic circuit boards where the heavy metals, these types of ashes go though the proper treatment, they could bind to other pollutants and convert them into easier-to- dispose solids, or they could be used as pavement filling. Such treatments reduce the level of threat of harmful chemicals, like fly and bottom ash[citation needed], while also recycling the safe product, especially with a female touch ....

There should be small kids and they should grow from kid to 40 years skipping the adolescent age or 18 to 22 years. To avoid all the young group tantrums Beechi the writer said why God change the kid directly to 45 year old man. Then these older generations forget about the feeling
of love and engage in their age old rituals.

You are not my Father or my Mother to decide what I should do. I know what is right or wrong. Please go and do some social work. You better go to some aged ashram and help them God will bless you.

I do not understand how anything associated with love can be segregated or repulsive to Indian culture & ethos. India has always been a country whose culture is woven in the fabric of togetherness and love. Few people with vested interest are trying to impose their moral policing on everyone, but while doing so, they forget that this is a land where Freedom of Choice and respect to women are embedded as early as Ramayana days.
Sita Choose her Husband by (Suyamabar) is one such illustration.
Those who are wasting their energy in opposing this day should divert to more issues that need Redressal.
Valentine’s Day may run somewhat contrary to Indian culture. But we are living in a democratic country and not a dictatorship, if some people want to celebrate then let them do it, why should the political parties bother about it?
A government runs a country, but not peoples' lives. Does the government have to tell you when to express love and in which manner? However, it does not take away the fact that India is a very diverse country and has been adopting lots of western cultures.
It's the peoples choice to live up to their culture. These political parties and leaders have lost their inhibitions, dignity and common sense, respect for others, including respect for women have gone out of the window.

Did someone make it a compulsion to celebrate Valentines Day. People celebrate it with their own interest. Why is there a need to Ban when this day is not even introduced in our Calender as a feast or a day to celebrate. It is competition between BD, HJV and other groups like who will be the first one to oppose it and come into limelight......... This time it is HJV who have become superstars...

Valentines day is a social practice in the west created by the society as such just like the Raksha Bandan practiced here. Somehow somebody coined fictitious St Valentine to this practice, just like how they have created Santa Claus. It's all fiction. One should not bring in the Roman Catholic Church for the prevalence of this practice of Valentine Day.

St Valentin's day is celebrated throughout the world on Feb.14.
If HJS does not want, it is their
view. Those who want to celebrate they will not listen to HJS. Even Asaram wanted to stop Valentine's day. HJS wants to celebrate Parents day, well, even if you celebrate parents day, 365 days,it is not enough. Please do it, but why on on Feb.14, one has remaining 364 days. Internationally, 2nd Sunday in May and 3rd Sunday in June are celebrated as mother and father's days respectively. If someone wants to depart from those days, it is their wish. We will do what we feel good and HJS, why talk of Hindu culture when approaching Feb.14, spread Hindu culture throughout the year. Wish you good luck.

What Indian culture are you people talking about?. Everyday gang raping, everyday murder, killing, suicide, corruption,When there is the name of love, kindness, humanity comes you people telling the government to ban it and not to celebrate those days. Please stop all this nonsense. Which Indian culture are you talking about, to alive burning of our daughter-in-laws, to treat them badly because they did not bring dowry, Girls not to go out after 6pm is this is the Indian culture. Please stop making rules depending on the religious. Is violence is allowed in any religion. Then why we are having everyday violence, why we have terrorism. Stop making any changes in the name of religion. Every religion says live peacefully, loving one another. Helping each other. Do follow that first. Then everything will look beautiful in this world. There will not be place for hatred.

Our Indian culture has promoted sexuality or sex education through "kamasutra", and achieved worldwide fame. But, there is no space for "Love" according to these goons. Chewing paan and spitting everywhere, urinating openly on the roadside, beating women for dowry, raping woman, moral policing are the Indian culture and nobody is there to speak about it.
