Mangalore: Ullal clash victims narrate ordeal to Swamijis

Mangalore, Feb 13: "Attempts to ride over Hindu religion or its leaders will not be tolerated. If justice is not done to Ullal clash victims, Hindu religious heads will go on a fast," warned Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math.

He was speaking during 'Sanyasigala Nade Santrasatara Kade' programme organized at Ullal here on Thursday February 13, wherein Hindu religious heads interacted with victims of the recent clashes at Mogaveerapatna in Ullal at Sri Vyaghra Chamundeshwari Temple and later visited houses.

"I will give a detailed report to the chief minister and the governor on the untoward incidents that took place in Ullal. I will urge them to provide compensation to victims, repair boats that were damaged by miscreants, release innocents from jail, and withdraw attempt-to-murder charges registered against juveniles," he said.

"Hindus have never done injustice to other people of other religions. Such a thought should not even be entertained by Hindus. No one should provoke anybody, but when there is injustice happening we should not remain passive. Do not be afraid of anything. We are all with you," he added.

"The home minister during his visit to Mangalore had said that my visit to Ullal is politically motivated. That's a joke. It is the duty of Hindu religious heads to visit the houses of victims belonging to their community. The Swamijis have a responsibility towards society, but they have a bigger responsibiltiy towards the Hindu society, and it is due to this reason that this programme has been organized," the Swamiji said.

During interation with the Swamiji, woman named Dhanyavati gave an account of the incident that sparked the clashes. Amid sobs, she said, "At around 1.45 am, a man with long hair came int the guise of a girl, accompanied by a man wearing a coat and both of them started knocking at the door of a house. Thinking that men who were out fishing had returned home, when the door was opened, they brandished swords, pulled out a boy and thrashed him. We need protection with such miscreants living amidst us. Though we wanted to request the local MLA to provide us security during his visit to Ullal, we could not, as he visited only one part of the town and left without speaking to us."

Another woman called Tara alleged police atrocity and narrated amid tears, "The men in the house never involved with any trouble. On the day of the incident too, they were in the sea fishing. When my husband was asleep in the house, police barged in and took him away along with my sister's husband and my son who is in high school. There is nobody to protect the family now. How can we live when the people who protect us are taken away? Please help us."

A person named Damodar said, "Our house which is in Kodi was stoned during the riots in 1990-91. During last week's clashes, a group of around 200 people pelted stones at our house. One of the stones hit my mother on hte chest and she was rushed to hospital by her sister with the help of the police in their jeep. Only I remained at home. However, despite pleading with the police to protect me and telling them that those who threw stones had taken refuge in a nearby mosque, the police took no action to arrest them. The police were biased in their handling of the situation."

Sri Vajradehi Swamiji of Gurpur Math lashed out at the state government and said, "If the state government does not give appropriate attention to the solve the issue, we will resort to Satyagraha fast under the leadership of Pejwar Swamiji. We will launch a protest against the government and its ministers that treat the Hindu community as minorty for vote bank."

Sri Ramananda Swamiji of Kolya Math, Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Math, Sri Yogananda Saraswati Swamiji of Kondevoor, Karinje Sri Muktananda Swamiji, Sri Kalahastendra Saraswati Swamij, Om Sri Guruji of Thokkottu, K S Nityananda Swamiji of Chikmagalur, Sri Rudramahaswamiji of Gurpur Jangama Math, Sri Vidyaprasannatirtha Swamiji of Shree Subramanya Math and others took part.

Ullal Mogaveera Sangha president Sadananda Bangera, Babu Bangera, Shree Bhagavati Kshetra president Chandrahas Ullal and others were present.

After the programme, the Swamiji visited houses of 11 victims of clashes in Mogaveerapatna and consoled them.

Dear Friends(Hindus specially)We (catholics of Mlore) have gone through similar and even worst situations during Church attacks. We too were crying and pleading with the authorities, but there were none to hear us nor to help us.
Don't show fingers towards a particular community. These goons are in every community we need to find them and punish them. Try and collect evidence to teach those jobless people a lesson so that they will not repeat such acts.
Please don't involve people like Kalladka Bhat, who will show himself as savior of Hindus in turn create more problems.

L.N. Rego, the catholics could have got justice, but they lacked a strong leader. Everyone holding the mike at the protest meet was considering himself as "leader" and used to go with delegations to the authorities. I don't want to open the chapter again, but just for your information.

The temple priests are for peace in the society and not polarise a local incident and give it a communal colour to divide the community that too in the name of "GOD". All the Hindus very well know that in the end of their temple visits the final blessing of a priest given to them is "Om Shanti" which means "Peace be unto all"
I understand that there was wrong in both sides and the Muslim youth acted more than required for which they are punished which they deserved.
But why RSS leaders like Prabhakar Bhat, VHP vice president Pejawar Swamiji are forcing other priests into dirty politics to serve their purpose of vote bank and power. If you want a developed India, stop these activities as this will take us nowhere. If there is harmony in the society, there will be prosperity and a divided society will never prosper.
Whether it is a temple, mosque or church, they should service for the betterment of the humanity at large which alone will serve “GOD” (who is most Gracious and most Compassionate) truly. Please don’t use omnipresent GOD the Creator to divide the society instead give peace and harmony a chance.
    Jai Hind!

Swamijis need to come forward to protect and safeguard the interests of hindus because they cant expect any justice from the highly pseudosecular and communal congress party ruling our state and center. Why U T Khader cant think of doing justice to any community other than his own. Similarly, Christians are taken care of by the politicians of their community, but it is only the hindus who are treated as unwanted in their own country.

Education should be must for in the states of India specially where people cannot afford to go to school. Free education for poor people in govt. Schools till 10th or 12th std. is must, else do not vote for any party. They free vote, their belly becomes big, their purse becomes thick with big notes, rest so money in their accounts in Indian & foreign banks. Just vote for an AAP type govt. Who can bring the change. Here a woman opened the door at midnight, without any fear, but met unexpected and loss of sleep whole night. Never open door in such cases when you do not know who he is. Just shout at the top of voice and blow whistle if you have. Keep a big stick ready if required. Click photos from the window if you can but keep on shouting - chor, chor, many will gather and help.

Neeta, you are not the sufferer. Nobody threw stones at your place, nor they came in midnight to beat up men or misbehave with women. so its esay to pass condescending remarks about other victims who are failed by their local leader and hence have to depend on own religious heads.

Well, whatever happened in Ullal was very sad. It could be a personal rivalry between two small groups of people that translated into a sort of religious fanaticism. And, wise people should not give it a communal color.

Similar to Daijiworld, I read in another local online news portal, wherein, Muslim women also explain the brutalities by other group and atrocities on them by some police officials. Now whom to believe?

Anyway, hope complete peace is prevailing in our lovely South Kanara.

Swamiji's are more active in politics than in their respective mutts.Better they work to bring back the peace in the place instead supporting one religion.Every village has its own way of living taking all the castes togather as brothers and sisters.Let the third parties don't interfere instead allow the villagers to reconcile and bring peace and harmony. All the best.Thanq.

Home Minister dint even bothered to talk to the victims. Instead gave a blind statement sitting in between the culprits, inaugurated a office, later went to Udupi and had a jolly ride in the boat and went back.what is he up to? he is a waste and not suitable for the post.
Swamijis are doing the Home ministers job by approaching and understanding the pain of victims.

For a head of any religion to make judgmental statements like "Hindus have never done injustice to other people of other religions." itself shows their bias and fascist ideology. Are they trying to whip up another riot and create dysfunction in our land.
