Mangalore: Theft at Ullal Kumpala Temple - Gold, cash stolen

Mangalore, Feb 14: Thieves broke into Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple at Kumpala late night on Wednesday February 12 and looted jewellery valued at Rs 3 lac and Rs 85,000 in cash. The money had been set aside for festival expenses.

The stolen items consist of mask of the diety, Rudrakshi chain, silver ornaments on Ganapathi diety, Prabhavali of Durgadevi, idol mask partly made of gold, Karimani weighing two-and-a-half sovereigns, gold chain and other ornaments. The estimated value of the stolen gold is said to be Rs 3 lac.

The incident came to light when priest Bhavanishanker came for prayers on Thursday at 5 am. It is said that construction work is going on at the right wing of the temple and the thieves climbed over it, broke the sheet of the temple, broke the door lock and committed the theft.

Fingerprint experts and dog squad pressed into action. Ullal police have registered a case.

Later, a team of BJP leaders who visited the temple asked the police to consider the theft seriously and arrest the culprits at the earliest.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLCs Monappa Bhandary, Ganesh Karnik, former minister Krishna J Palemar, Nagaraja Shetty, former MLA Jayarama Shetty, Pratap Simha Nayak, Zilla panchayat member Satish Kumpala and others were present.

    Mr.Rudolf, you said it right there are no doors in the houses near the temple. At the same time there are some shopkeepers outside the temple who force the devotees to buy the things or we can also say these guys fool the pilgrims who visit from various parts of India.
    I would rather call this a kind of robbery.

    Now robbers have become very active. They know how to circulate money and gold when it is simply lying in the temple. Few days back they stole from one temple. The Pujari / priest should sleep in the temple, else if you install CCTV camera will be better. If you keep the old camera also, robbers may not come.

    Best is to deposit the daily cash and gold collection on a regular basis in bank strong room!!! How do these robbers, in most of the cases, know for sure that there is a good amount of gold and money in its donation boxes is surprising!!

    This is the handy work of insiders. Who knows well in advance that large amount of money kept inside the temple for festival expenses plus gold ornaments.

    It is really sorry state of affairs that humans do not even spare the Gods to live in peace.It shows that moral of the society has touched so low that we humans have lost respect for religious places and Gods.OR is it that because of the big gap between the rich and the poor we humans have become so desperate for necessities of life that we are not able to spare even the GODS for survival. THOUGH all of us should condemn the act but we also should think why our society has come to this crossroad. WHO are to be blamed the politicians and religious leaders who jump to gain popularity and mileage from these incidents or we ourself are the culprits. As Indians we should respect all holy places temple, mosque,church, Gurudwara ...because that is what has been taught by our fathers and forefathers and that makes us Indians and INDIA. JAI HIND

    In the land of the pious, and there was a time no man would dare rob a holy place or place of worship, but some people have become so desperate that wealth is the only destination without fear of God!!

    But very ironic that there is still an incredible place called Shani Shingnapur in Maharastra where no door has a lock still there are no robberies!!
