Chikmagalur, Feb 14: Saifulla (59), circle inspector attached to Tarikere (rural) police station in the district, lost his life on the spot after the Maruti Swift car in which he was travelling rammed into a roadside tree at Bilehalli near Sakarayapatna on Wednesday February 12 afternoon.

His tragic end came just 13 months earlier to his retirement. He is survived by wife, a son, and a daughter.

Saifulla had worked in Mulky and Ullal stations in the capacity of sub-inspector, besides Belur in Hassan district. After getting promoted from Ullal, he had efficiently worked as the inspector in Chikmagalur district excise and anti-lottery division. He had taken charge as Tarikere rural circle inspector four months back.

Saifulla was a native of Hassan. He attended a court hearing in Belur on Wednesday as part of his duty. While moving towards Tarikere via Chikmagalur, the car he was driving hit a roadside banyan tree, killing him instantly. The car was badly mangled in the accident.

Western range inspector general of police, Pratap Reddy, superintendent of police, R Chetan, and many other officials paid their last respects to the departed soul. A report about the accident was registered in Sakarayapatna police station.
