Karkala: Police raid gambling dens in Hebri

Karkala, Feb 15: Hebri station police have raided matka gambling dens in the Hebri police station limits.

Police have arrested Thimmappa Shetty(64) accused of collecting cash for matka beside a petty shop at Varanga Chatkalpade Cross and an amount of Rs 1,120 is seized from him.  Another accused, Pramod from Udupi has fled.  Hebri sub inspector Seetharam has registered a case.

They have also detained Shanker Kanchan from near a small shop in front of Muniyal Ullas Bar.  An amount of Rs 2,180, matka chits and a ball pen is seized from him.  Hebri police station ASI Parameshwar Naik has filed a case.

Similarly police have also taken into custody another suspect Suresh Devadiga.  An amount of Rs. 925, chits and a ball pen are taken away by the police. A case in this regard is registered by H C Damodar.

The three arrested culprits have confessed that they have indulged in matka as per suggestion of Udupi's Pramod and that Leo Cornelio is their main kingpin.

However the inaction of the police as regards to the arrest of chief kingpin has given rise to suspicions.
