Udupi, Feb 15: A pregnant lady from the district allegedly hanged herself at her home on Friday February 14.

Anita (29), wife of Krishnaraju, a fishing labourer living at Kodi Bengre near here, ended her life.

She was mentally disturbed by the refusal of her husband to spare some money to her for attending the annual Car Festival being held at her native place.

Anita was a native of Chitrapady near Saligrama in the district, and her mother had invited her over phone to take part in the car festival at Saligrama temple. It is said that she had sought some money from her husband for travel and other expenses, and an argument had broken out between the two after he refused her request.

Anita committed suicide when no one was at home.

A case has been registered in Malpe police station.
