Kundapur, May 24: More than 3 acres of forest area was destroyed at Anekaralukodlu near Shiroor here owing to sudden fire on Monday May 22 night.
Precious trees and rare species of creatures which were in the forest have been destroyed owing to the fire tragedy. The fire brigade personnel from Bhatkal and Kundapur with the help of localites struggled for 5 hours to extinguish fire. However, by the time fire was brought under control, it had already engulfed more than 3 acres of forest.
The immediate intervention both by the fire brigade and the public prevented the nearby Goligundi forest area from getting destroyed. Though the exact reasons for behind the tragedy are not known, it is suspected to be an act of miscreants.
Goligundi village which is at a close distance house Amritadhara Goshala and several houses. This is not the first time that this kind of tragedy has been reported from the area. In the last couple of years, thrice the woods have been destroyed by fire.
It is noticeable that while most of the forest area in the district is being destroyed under the label of development. But the forests in this area have been preserved by the nature-loving inhabitants. As mentioned, these forests house some of the rare species of creatures and trees which are unique to this place.
