Rachana World Convention: Website launched at meeting

Mangalore, Feb 17: A meeting of Rachana members was held at Kalaangann here on Sunday February 16 to discuss plans for the upcoming Rachana World Convention and Exhibition – Magnet 2014. The event is scheduled to be held on April 6 this year.

The website of Rachana focussing on the World Convention was launched on the occasion by chief guest Allen Pereira, former chairman of Bank of Maharashtra.

Addressing the gathering, Allen Pereira said, "Banks hold training camps to encourage self-employment and launch special schemes for minorities. But not even one percent of these facilities are actually utilized. Instead of starting new banks and cooperatives, let us make use of the available facitilites to the maximum.

"There are several fields where employment opportunities are plenty, but we need to look for them and utilize them. We need to first prioritize what we need, and then get into the right field," he added.

He urged Rachana to involve banks in providing traning and finance to youth who are interested in starting new ventures.

Elias Sanctis, recipient of district Rajyotsava Award, was honoured on the occasion.

A discussion was held among the Rachana members on the upcoming Magnet-2014 event.

Rachana president Ivan D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Entrepreneur and chairman of Magnet-2014 organizing committee Walter D'Souza delivered the keynote address and answered questions raised during the meeting.

Rachana secretary John Monteiro, Allen Pereira's wife Evelyn Pereira and others were present.
