Bantwal: Gas cylinder truck mishap creates panic, major tragedy averted

Bantwal, Feb 17: A speeding truck carrying gas cylinders on Monday February 17 went out of control and fell off the road after hitting an electric pole on NH 75 near Panemangalore, creating panic among locals as rumours of gas leakage spread within minutes of the mishap.

The truck hit the electric pole with a loud sound and gas cylinders rolled out on to the road. The fire brigade and the police arrived at the spot immediately and confirmed that there was no gas leakage.

The locals heaved a sigh of releif after the official confirmation from the fire service department. However, officials said that a major mishap could have occured had the gas cylinders exploded. The live electric cables were also loosely suspended, but fortunately there was no major damage.

Speeding and negligence of the driver was said to be the cause for the incident. The truck was plying from Mangalore. The identity of the truck driver was is yet to be known. The cylinders were loaded into another truck and moved from the spot.

Bantwal police have registered a case.

    Pure carelessness from the Drivers side.he should also think he himself is in the first place will be effected when anything happens.and second other innocent People .his fast driving, and most probably his goods(cylinders)were also not properly set suppose any accident happens.That is also important.Important also is, a Driver who is having enough practice and the vehicle also should be fit to carry such inflammable material .Not anyone Driver and without keeping Speed Limit are not good.

    Great escape and great lesson for police. Speed limit of such vehicles must be very very slow. Sack the driver and give him other job, please else, he will kill many if he drinks & drive like that. Police take action on drivers who carry hazardous materials and drive recklessly. If it had burst, then imagine the situation. Catch the driver now and train him.
