Mangalore: Theft in city – senior citizen suffers loss of Rs 6.43 lac

Mangalore, Feb 18: Linette Mascarenhas (75), who resides behind St Agnes School in Bendore here, has complained to the police that thieves who sneaked into her flat in Crisil Apartments on Mercara Hill Road here when it remained unoccupied between February 3 and 17, took away cash and other valuables worth Rs 6.43 lac.

Mascarenhas says she noticed the theft after returning home on February 17 morning. Indian currency worth two lac rupees, 1,500 US dollars valued at Rs 87,000, besides gold and diamond jewellery have been taken away by the thieves, she reported.

The thieves broke open the door of her apartment and stole the valuables from the cupboard kept in the master bedroom, she said.

Kadri police, with whom the complaint has been filed, have begun investigation.
