Mangalore, May 24: "The state government is planning to make rural service compulsory to the medical students.  If everything goes on well and the government passes the order, then, the medicos will have to render one year of rural service before being awarded their medical degree," said state higher education minister D H Shankarmurthy.

He also said that those institutions which take more donation than the capitation fee would be fined Rs 10 lac and the permit of such institutions will be cancelled.  If the parents and students have already been charged more fees by any institute, then they should bring the matter to the notice of the government, which will enable the government to take suitable action against such institutes, he added.
