Udupi, Feb 18: While inaugurating the UGC sponsored national conference on microfinance and inclusive growth organized by Brahmavar based Crossland college in association with SKDRDP, the former chairman and managing director of Syndicate bank said that the microfinance institutions are established to help the poor.

He lamented that many institutions with the exception of a few like SKDRDP are not interested in serving the poor.

"Microfinance was meant for the poor people. Inclusive growth can be achieved if microfinance followed the five foundations like – Anna, Arogya, Akshara, Ashraya and Aadhara. All the five foundations together will enable microfinance to achieve a full growth. The aim is to help the poor and so microfinance should work to achieve it by making use of the five foundations," he said.

Manorama Bhat, director, Sri Dharmasthala Siri Gramodyoga Samasthe, Belthangady was the guest of honour. She said that Microfinance institutions talks about women empowerment. It is an Institution which caters to the need of the poor people and it starts its business with trust. She insisted that educated people should come forward and join hands with Micro finance Institutions to bring in a possible inclusive growth in the future.

The chief guest Dr N K Thingalaya, former chairman and managing director Syndicate Bank released the book of abstracts. 42 papers were presented in the conference. The proceedings of the conference will be published with ISBN number.

 Suresh M,Krishna, co promoter and MD , Grameen Financial Services Private Limited,Bangalore handled the technical session which was followed by the interaction with 2 beneficiaries of the SKDRDP.

Prof Mathew C Ninan, managing trustee, priority Educational foundation gave the valedictory address, in which he stressed the need for teachers to have the right attitude to be successful.
