Puttur: Smuggling of deer pelt – Mangalore man arrested

Puttur, Feb 19: In an operation launched by the forest mobile squad attached to Puttur forest range, a person, who was travelling by bus with a deer pelt in his possession, was arrested on Tuesday February 18 as soon as he alighted from a bus from Bangalore. He has been identified as Shivaprasad Shetty from Alape Padil in Mangalore.

The policemen had got advance information that Shetty, after buying the pelt from Muneshwaranagar in Bangalore, was headed for Uppinangady for selling it. He arrived at Uppinangady by a bus bound for Mangalore for Bangalore. The forest mobile squad personnel, who were waiting for him, took him into custody. After investigation, the accused was handed over to Uppinangady police.

Police sub-inspector of the squad, Umesh Uppalike, led the operation.
