Mangalore, Feb 19:
Karnataka Bank Ltd celebrated its 90th Founder’s Day on Tuesday February 18 at Karnataka Bank Auditorium, head office, Kankanady, Mangalore.

P Jayarama Bhat, managing director and CEO of Karnataka Bank, welcomed the guests and spoke about the history of the bank. In his welcome speech, he said that he is proud of the bank's achievement in all these years and said that the same will continue throughout the years.

Padmashri Dr Sudha N Murthy, chairperson, Infosys Foundation, in her Founder's Day lecture said that she’s a Kannadiga at heart.

Further she said, "I always look at my watch because my background is teaching and even my family has this. If we get a little bit of computer knowledge, education, and information about various good things, our country will develop. We do not have adequate basic amenities in our country. Live the way you feel right and do not pretend much in life, life is not at all that complicated. When I was in Raichur, I did the Devadasi rehabilitation as no one was ready to help them. To match myself with the society I never wore any jewellery. I wanted everything to be equal. There are many strategies in life. If anyone works in the right way then they will come above the poverty line."

"Money alone cannot solve your problems. A kind heart and love from others changes your lifestyle. You are a good human being if your mind thinks in the right direction, your point of view,” she said. Dr Murthy was felicitated by Ananthakrishna, chairman of the bank.

In his presidential speech, Ananthakrishna said that the bank has a special relationship with North Karnataka. In 1996, Bank of Karnataka and Karnataka Bank became one.

"A man spends his whole life in knowing others; he barely spends his time in knowing himself. Even God does not help the weak and he will not support the weak. So, if you are weak, God cannot help you. Women empowerment in our country should be strong and should not give up. Then only will God stand by you to help,” he added.

M S Mahabaleshwar proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was followed by Carnatic vocal recital by Visushi and Bombay Jayashri.

Directors, T V Vishwanath, S P Manjunath, Dr H Ram Mohan, T R Chandra Mohan, M S Krishna, former chairman, M V Shankar Bhat, legal advisor,  Ashok, S S Kamath and Srinivas Kamath statutory advisors, Melvyn Rodrigues, Renukacharya, and other dignitaries were also present.
