Karkala, Feb 21: "We have the responsibility of grooming youth to be intelligent, technologically efficient and capable of facing challenges. Students these days look for teachers who facilitate their all round development and not those who only teach academics", opined Sanjay Sahai, IPS, additional director general of Police, Bangalore.

He was speaking as a chief guest at the 'Anandotsava', a combination of college day and intercollegiate cultural and arts festival, on Feb 20 at the university premises.

"Getting admission in the college is only the beginning of education. It is not the end of education.  Life is an opportunity.  Make use of it to develop your personality.  Face the ups and downs of life and succeed", he said.

Another guest, N Sanjeet Shetty, old student of the college and chief management official at England's Etan and company, advised the students not to waste time going after money but think about
increasing knowledge. "Work hard with sincerity. Love the people around you and give a portion of your success back to society", he said.

Pincipal Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar, president of the programme read the college annual report and said that the main aim of the college day is to make the parents and people know the achievements and future plans of the college. He said that students should get themselves identified in extracurricular activities and sports on national and international level and the teachers should create conducive atmosphere for them.

He congratulated the award winners and wished that the achievements may inspire them for greater glory.

Computer science engineering student Vineet Bangera was felicitated as the best outgoing student and Civil engineering student Suksheet Kumar was honored as the best outgoing sports student. Best outgoing students in various other fields were also felicitated by prizes sponsored by Eton and Company by N Sanjeet Shetty. Students who have excelled in academics and sports were given prizes on the occasion.

The programme set to last for three days will consist of Anthyakshari, songs, solo acting, painting, drawings, cartoons, essays, Rangoli, discussion, models with clay, flower arrangement, cooking without fire etc.  There will be 45 competitions and more than 5000 students will participate in the programme and show their talents.
