Mangalore, Feb 22: A person named Anand Manohar Pawar (27) from Bijapur district was arrested by the personnel of the city crime branch (CCB) on Friday February 21.

Two kg of ganja worth Rs 40,000 was seized from his possession. The arrest was made from near Bejai New Road Junction in the city, after finding that Pawar was pedaling ganja there.

Reportedly, Pawar works as a mechanic in the city depot of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. It is learnt that he had brought ganja from his native place.

The policemen, who got information that a person was selling ganja near Bittu Bai Compound adjacent to Bejai New Road Junction on Friday, rushed to the spot along with tahsildar, K Mohan Rao. The arrested person hails from Tamadaddi village in Muddebihal taluk of Bijapur district. It is said that he had with him five gram sachets of ganja, which he sold to the general public and students at the rate of Rs 100 each.

The operation, conducted by CCB inspector, Valentine D’Souza and others, was guided by deputy commissioners of police, Dr K V Jagadish and Vishnuvardhan N, under the direction of city police commissioner, R Hitendra.
