• Samithi alarmed by the Lokayukta's `most corrupt city in Karnataka' tag to Mangalore
• `Many government officials are corrupt'

Mangalore, May 27: The Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi will launch an anti-corruption campaign in the offices of various government departments here.

President of the samithi Hanumanth Kamath told presspersons here on Friday May 26, that the samithi was alarmed that Lokayukta Venkatachala had given the "most corrupt city in Karnataka" tag to Mangalore.

Many officials at the district office, the Mangalore City Corporation office, Regional Transport Office and in other public offices were corrupt, he alleged.

Referring to some civic works taken up in the city recently, Kamath said that the expenditure on a manhole built on V T Road had been put at Rs 30,000 while in other places it was not more than Rs. 7,000.

Stating that there were many cases of corruption in the city corporation office, he said that the samithi would take them up. The samithi members would meet the Lokayukta during his tour of Udupi district next week and apprise him of corruption in various offices in the city, he said.
