Mangalore, Feb 23: St Xavier’s College, Goa bagged the first place at ‘Media Manthan – 2014’, a two day media fiesta organized by the department of Mass Communication and Media Studies (MCMS), St Aloysius College, Mangalore here on February 27. SDM College, Ujire was the runner up.
Apart from competitions, the fest – under the theme, 'Advent – Unleash the creativity', hosted paper presentations, workshops on advertising in addition to the ad exhibition. There were competitions like mad ads, photography, rangoli, treasure hunt and best advertiser.
During the valedictory address, chief guest J R Lobo, MLA said, “Democracy finds its true meaning only when the media is active. Mass communication is a very important sector in today’s world. It is a means to express ourselves”. Giving examples of freedom fighters and few politicians he added that for a politician, his/her life itself should be a message.
Fr Francis D Almeida added in his presidential address that the media can make a person or destroy them. He quoted, “The latter has been extensively used in the present media”.
Badekkila Pradeep shared his experience as an alumni of journalism at St Aloysius College. He also advised the students who took part in the competitions, not to loose hope if not receive prizes. He said, “It is failing to learn from the failure which is the actual failure. Every experience is priceless”.
MCMS head Vishal Nayak, convener Laxmi Shenoy and student co-ordinator Sudeep Shenoy were present on the dais.
