Mangalore, May 27: Playwright-direcor and national awrard-winning film-maker Sadanand Suvarna has been selected for this year's Vishukumar Award.

The central committee of Yuva Vahini has been giving this award every year to achievers in recognition of their distinguished service.
This was announced by Shankara Suvarna, coordinator of award-presentation ceremony, at a press conference held here on Saturday. Committee president Taranath Hejmady and secretary Padmanabha Salian were present on the occasion
The award will be presented at a function to be held at 2-30 pm on Sunday, May 28 in the Rukka Rama Salian auditorium in Mulki. Senior litterateur and folklore researcher Prof Amrita Someshwar will present the award to Suvarna.
About the award
The award has been instituted in memory of Vishwanath Boloor (1935-1986), a playwright, novelist and film-maker, who was better known as Vishukumar to the theatre, film and literary world.
It carries a cash purse of Rs 5,000, a citation and a memento.
About Sadanand Suvarna
Mumbai-based Sadanand Suvarna, besides being an accomplished actor, has made a name in both theatre and films. He has under his belt some memorable plays and movies.
'Dore Oedipus', 'Urulu', 'Prajaprabhutva Lolalotte', 'Court Martial' are a few of his most successful directorial ventures on stage.
'Ghatashraddha', a Kannada movie produced by him has won 18 awards, including the state, national and international awards. His movie 'Kubi mattu Iyala' has won the state award.
His teleserial 'Guddeda Boota' has been one of the most popular serials on small screen.
Having proved his excellence in different fields like theatre, movies, literature, he has been very deservingly honoured with Karnataka Rajyotsava, Tulu Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Natak Academy and other awards.
