Udupi, May 29: Thirteen motorised fibre boats anchored downstream at a mud bund at Kalihithlu near Gangolli were washed away in the floods caused by incessant rain in Kundapur taluk.

The mud bund was built for the construction of a new bridge. As the pressure of the stored water became high, it breached around 4 am on Saturday and carried away the fishing boats with nets to the Arabian Sea.

As the rain continued on Sunday, the boats were not traced. A loss of Rs 5 lac has been estimated.

Meanwhile, for the last 24 hours Udupi district recorded a rainfall of 115.40 mm. While Kundapur taluk recorded the 208 mm, Karkala and Udupi taluks recorded 91 mm and 46 mm of rainfall respectively.
