Udupi: Three killed as car tyre explodes at Katapady

Udupi, Feb 27: In a tragic incident, three persons including a child were killed when the tyre of their car exploded and the car turned turtle.

The accident took place on NH 66 at Pangala, Katapady here on Thursday February 27.

The deceased have been identifed as Chaya Shetty (50), Dhruti (6) and Chetan (22).

Chaya's husband Ramesh Shetty was critically injured in the accident.

They were on their way from Uchila to Udupi when the tyre of their Wagon-R car suddenly burst and the car went out of control. The vehicle rolled over, critically injuring the passengers. They were rushed to hospital.

Chetan and Dhruti breathed their last on the way to hospital while Chaya passed away sometime later.

Chetan was a plumber by profession.

Kaup police have registered a case.

    be prepared for anything unexpected,
    this is called as defensive driving
    u my expect a tyre burst/sudden vehicular entry /bad roads.
    Last 8 days I was on the same road,seen people driving with no discipline, small cars, Maruti ,they are light weight cars can fly easily if control lost. The accident can be caused by only 3 things
    1) The car 2) the driver 3) the conditions ( environment /road /rain all other conditions)
    99% accidents are due to human failure. "Expect anything unexpected" prepared to face this and u will save yourself and other passengers of the car. "Drive Safely"

    Tubeless tyres with nitrogen are safe against tyre burstage in high speeds as the tubeless will not go flat immediately if at all there is a puncture and nitrogen controls the temperature and less expansion as compared to normal air. Maintaining the correct pressure in tyres is most important.

    This is a misconception that over inflating will lead overheating. Its actual under inflating that causes the tire burst! Over inflating might affect suspension a little. It's a normal practice in west to inflate tires to its maximum allowed pressure (40psi) to get better mileage.

    Please note - all - don't drive too fast at all in out coastal road and make sure your car being checked regularly and fit to drive on the road, do not comprise at all about the condition of your vehicle just for money saving, if the tire is old please replace

    One more important thing. Never over inflate tyres. Check what is recommended pressure for the car (usually there will be a sticker on the Driver Door opening or manual) and what is written on the tyre too. The air expands in hot weather or after a long drive, so never put more than the required.

    Sir very good suggestion, but in a over populated and fastest growing country all this is practically not possible!!

    Despite taking all precautions still if one is destined to meet with serious accident, he will, just take the recent example of Michael Schumacher, who was skiing in one of the top class places with all safety gear in place!!

    It probably must have been the front tyre that is responsible for such devastation. While my heart goes out to the family, I must stress a few things I have seen in Mangalore and Udupi. Not a lot of people still follow the seat belt rule. It is very very important to drive with seat belts on. Not just the driver, but everyone. Moreover, not many people are educated about taking safety precautions. Check your brake fluid, engine coolants, engine oil, steering fluid, tyres, etc. Ensure your tires are interchanged at least every 5000/- kilometers. Check for wear and tear. Don't buy tires from the junk yard. Simple rules that we follow will keep us safe from a majority of chances of meeting with accidents on our roads.
