Udupi, May 29: Dr A Subrahmaneshwar Rao who has recently been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district will assume power on Monday May 29.

Dr A Subrahmanehswar Rao who hails from Andhra Pradesh had earlier served as ASP for Puttur sub-division.  He was promoted as SP this year and was transferred to Kodagu recently.  He had even taken charge of the post a fortnight ago.

But in a sudden decision, the government has now appointed him as SP to the district.  As reported earlier in these columns, the post of SP was vacant after S Murugan was transferred to Mysore recently.

Though B K Singh was first appointed as the new SP, the former had rejected the post citing Naxal menance and other law and order problems.  So for more than 15 days, the district was without a SP.
