Kundapur: Defaming lady with fake Facebook ID - accused arrested

Kundapur, Feb 27: A person named Rajesh from Vandse in the taluk was arrested by the personnel of Kollur police station for allegedly opening a Facebook account with fake ID in the name of a local woman.

He has been charged with using objectionable language in this account, thereby defaming her and harming her reputation. He has also been accused of cheating holders of several Facebook accounts through impersonation.

It is learnt that Rajesh deals with second hand vehicles. A few months ago, he allegedly opened a Facebook account in the name of Swathi Mogaveera whom he knew, and had operated this account duly faking himself as Swathi. Swathi had filed a complaint in this connection at Kollur police station about three months ago. The policemen, who had pursued the case vigorously, could nail the culprit with the help of the cyber crime branch of the department.

After arresting the accused from Vandse on Wednesday morning, he was produced in a court here. He was remanded to judicial custody.
