Bangalore, May 30: Chennapatna is a town on way from Bangalore to Mysore.  The town is famous for handicrafts and is a favourite spot for tourists to shop.

In Muniyappana Dodda Village in Chennapatna Taluk, two temples were looted by the dacoits on the night of May 28.

The dacoits first entered the Kothanhalli Maramma temple around 1am and hit the watchman Siddayya (60), who was asleep, with a boulder, resulting in his instant death. 

Thereafter theylooted the gold ornaments, silver crown and other items from the temple. However, they left behind a 'hundi' (cash box) which was heavy.

After this, the group entered the Bireshwara temple, lifted the silver crown and the 'hundi' and fled.  The police force dashed to the sites on hearing the news along with the dog squad.  In spite of intensive search they could not catch the dacoits nor could get any clues.

Dacoits strike in the city

A house occupied by mother and son was looted by dacoits on May 29 morning.

The four dacoits who entered a house located at Vasant Vallabh Nagar Pipe Lane street, broke the front door of the house at around 4 am on Monday morning and entered the house. 

Senior citizeny Lalitamba (70), who was sleeping on the ground floor of the house, was awakened by the noise.  The dacoits who asked her for the key of the wardrobe, assaulted her when she refused to hand it over.  Hearing the screams, her son Mohanraj, came down from upstairs to help his mother.  The dacoits assaulted him too.

Mohanraj is a bank employee and still a bachelor. He has alleged that Rs.20,000 in cash along with Rs.50,000 worth gold ornaments and other valuable items have been looted.

A case has been registered in Subramanyapura police station and investigation is being held by senior police officials.
