Mangalore, Mar 1:
The postgraduate departments of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore, organized a cultural event 'Sangam' on Friday February 28, on the campus to showcase the talents of the students.

The programme began with a prayer song led by MSc Biotech students.

Fr Francis D Almeida welcomed the guests and briefed about the event. He said that ‘Sangam’ is nothing but the joining together of two rivers.

A floral welcome was given to Fr Joseph J Lobo, director, St Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, by Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal of SAC.

Fr Lobo inaugurated the event and in his inaugural speech, he said, "The students studying in this college are indeed fortunate. It is time to bring out all the energy you have. Everyone has the potential to bring something creative out of themselves. Life begins when you have ideas. Great ideas are very important. Good ideas are not put into use unless we come together as a team. This is a college where precious ideas can be formed. But just ideas are not enough, we need to have desire and initiative. All students have the potential and opportunity to showcase their talents."

Fr Swebert D'Silva, in his presidential speech, thanked the PG department for organizing the event, and said, "These are the events that make a difference in a student's life. Students must believe in themselves. When you have no confidence in yourself, you feel like you do not want to take any risk. Being innovative and taking the initiative, you must believe in yourself and those who do not come forward, will be left behind forever. The world is filled with negative thinkers, we are the ones who should really bring about a change."

Dr A Lourdusamy, dean of PG studies, gave a memento to Fr Joseph Lobo as a token of remembrance. Student co-ordinator Chithra proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural ceremony was compered by Ruhina from MSc Biotech.

Registrar Dr Narahari, dean Suresh Poojary, Dimple Pinto, Laxmi Shenoy, Judy Pinto, and Mervin, were also present at the formal function.
