Subrahmanya, May 30: This small temple town, which hit the national headlines, when cricket idol Sachin Tendulkar paid a pilgrimage visit to the Kukke Shri Subrahmanya temple, is in the news for another reason.

Located in the verdant green lap of the Western Ghats, Subrahmanya is blessed with plenty of rain every year, even when the rest of the Sullia taluk goes dry at times.

Incessant rains that lashed this town since Friday resulted in total inundation of the Kumaradhara bathing ghat here. The Kumaradhara river flows westwards and at Uppinangady joins river Netravati, which eventually flows into the Arabian Sea in Mangalore, before being joined by river Phalguni (Gurpur).

The water level has almost reached the danger line in mere three days. The rainfall in May is the highest ever in forty years.

The Kumaradhara bridge had reached the point of being submerged anytime, when last reports came Monday evening. If rains continued overnight, the bridge may go under water by Tuesday morning, say the reports.
