Mangalore, May 30:
What was to be a happy occasion for litterateur Bhaskar Bhandary Majibail turned out to be a tragedy as he died of cardiac arrest on the stage at the programme organized to release his book 'Sarvajnana Vachanolu' here on Sunday May 29.

Bhaskar Bhandary Majibail, shown in a circle above during the release of his book, collapsed the soon after right on the stage and died.

He looked fine at the beginning of the function and even spoke at length about his book, which is a Tulu translation of Sarvajna's verses. Later when the dignitaries were inaugurating the function by lighting the lamp, he complained of chest pain and collapsed on the floor. Though he was rushed to a private hospital he couldn't be saved as he had previously undergone a cardiac bypass surgery, said the doctors.

Majibail was a practising advocate in the city and had earlier taken voluntary retirement from Vijaya Bank. The programme was organized by Subhodaya Prakashana at Canara College here.
