Mangalore, May 31: It rains cats and dogs even on the fifth day of the onset of monsoons. Heavy rains cease occasionally but drizzles continued during the day.
As on Tuesday morning, Puttur recorded the highest rainfall with 158 mm and Mangalore least with 52.20 mm. Sullia recorded 145.60 mm, Beltangady 135 mm and Bantwal l82 mm.
The rains have brought relief to the water crisis in Mangalore city. The blessings from above have filled up the Thumbe vented dam. The dam overflows and water flows at 14.1 ft which is 1.1 ft above the level of the dam.
It’s not the end of the water issue; the City did face water shortage due to technical snags at the pumping stations at Bendore and Panambur.
The Met Department has forecasted heavy rain in the next 48 hours and has asked to take required precautionary measures against sea erosion in the district.
