Mangalore, May 31: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy who visited several rain affected parts of DK district has assured a sum of Rs 9.21 crore for relief measures and for providing compensation to the victims of natural calamities.
The CM who spoke to the press on Tuesday said that the demand to provide Rs 2 lac compensation to the victims of Malpe boat wreckage will be considered. At Udupi, the CM informed that under the Natural Calamities Fund, the aggrieved can be paid Rs 50,000. The government is however thinking of hiking this amount to Rs 1 lac.
Expressing concern on the deposit of silt at the Malpe backwater which poses problems to the fishermen, the CM assured of prompt action.
Kumaraswamy has been perhaps the first CM to have visited and responded instantly to the woes of the people of DK during the rainy season.
The minister who traveled in a KSRTC Airavatha bus also spoke to the people using a Microphone from inside the bus assuring them not to worry as the government will provide them assistance. Several who observed his moves have called him ‘A CM of the people, for the people.’
