Udupi: Drowsy driver leaves trail of destruction at Pangala

Udupi, Mar 6: The driver of a container vehicle, reportedly in a state of drowsiness, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into roadside coconut trees, electric pole and old dilapidated house, causing much damage.

The accident occurred on national highway 66 near Pangala Kattikere on Thursday, March 6.

The impact of the accident was such that three coconut trees were uprooted and the house was damaged.

The vehicle was heading towards Mangalore. The front portion of the vehicle was completely smashed.

Luckily, no one, including the driver, was injured in the incident.

Kaup police inspector Rajendra Naik visited the spot.

A case has been registered in Kaup police station.

    This house was on the road..... I have seen this accident. The sudden diversion was given on the road and the house was marked for demolition for road broadening.

    Long route vehicles the drivers need proper rest with a required sleep to drive further sometime it may be otherwise.The results sometime deadly and some time fortunate.

    Drinking and driving the vehicle is highly objectionable.With no sense driving the vehicle on the road is a curse.Hope the police department do the needful.Thanq.

    Surprised to see comments like "drinking" ! While the truck driver might be to be blamed , it could also be other factors . You never know . How did these media guys know it was a drowsy driver? It could key components failing as well .

    Also , our truck drivers operate in very inhumane conditions with no limit on daily working hours . I would blame the operators more than the driver

    Trucks on national highway speed limit not more than 25 km an hour. Many accidents can be avoided of road rules & regulations are followed strictly. Also, its just not the speed alone is responsible for all accidents that happens on the highways. Its the total lack of lane discipline to other road users and all sorts vehicles taking the liberty of travelling on the wrong side and high speed in the road margins an quality of the roads too...

    Nearly 40% of the Drivers driving heavy vehicles consume alcohol and drive vehicle in drowsiness, but Police never takes breathing Test and Catch them even though all the Traffic police have been provided with the gadgets required for such Testing.

    Seems that the driver must have failed in his pre-planned motive due to which things went awry. Who knows, he could have been dreaming to become a rich man by getting the money from the insurance company but the tactic got back-fired. Tough luck.

    Should be a limit on drinking habit. Too much drowsy is not good for all. Driver's job is gone. Loss to the poor company. Loss to the house owner. Who will build his house? His coconut is also gone!!!
