Kasargod: Police confiscate hawala money worth Rs 11 lac

Kasargod, Mar 8: In an operation conducted by the town police station personnel on Friday March 7, cash amounting to Rs 11 lac presumably representing hawala money, was seized, it is reported.
U A Muhammed Shariff (30), a native of Talangare Bangodu, and presently living in Bedradka, was arrested by a shadow police team headed by superintendent of police, Thomson Jose.
The team was checking vehicles at Karandakkad on Friday afternoon, when it came across Rs 11 lac stashed in a bag being carried by Shariff in a motor bike. The entire cash was in currency notes of Rs 500 denomination. Sheriff confessed that he had brought the amount for being delivered to a person from Talangare.
The police, who checked cash bundles, found one note to be fake and now plan to verify whether there is counterfeit currency angle to the case.
