Udupi, Mar 10: On the occasion of the centenary celebration of Our Lady of Health church, the women council of Shirva parish celebrated women's day on March 9 at 9 am at the Shirva church premises.
The celebration began with the eucharistic mass celebration in the church at 9:30 am. During mass Fr Stany Tauro spoke on the importance of women in society and he also encouraged all women to be courageous in modern times.
A programme was followed by the mass; held in Don Bosco Hall , the president of the function FrStany Tauro, parish priest, Fr Reginald Pinto (director of sociel and economic developement , Udupi diocese), Fr Maxim dsouza (Director of Don Bosco youth centre), Fr Avil D'cunha (parish pastoral council), Wilson Dsouza (vice president ), William Machado (secretary), Sr Brijith Maadtha, (superior), Sr Hilda , Leena Machado(president of womens council, Shirva), Jacinta Dsouza (secretary), professor Vincent Alva and Saritha Alva (resource persons) were present on the dias.
The programme began with welcoming guests by Leena Machado. Prof Vincent Alva and Saritha Alva adressed the gathering. They highlighted the role of women in building up a peaceful and healthy society. They also proposed some means to achieve great success in life. Speaking on this ocassion Fr Stany Tauro lauded the selfless services rendered by all women of the parish towards church activities. He also asked for their help especially during the centenary celebration of the church. Jacintha rendered vote of thanks.
The cultural programme was followed by a stage show. Around 700 women of the parish, the members of various associations and members of the parish council were also present.
