Karkala, Mar 11: A worker met bloody death at a stone quarry in Gundyadka in Nitte near here at around 9.30 am on Monday March 10. The quarry is owned by the son of Rashriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader, Bola Prabhakar Kamath.

Dayanand Devadiga (42) from Santoorkopla lost his life in a sudden accident. He had joined this quarry in the capacity of crusher operator a few days back. On Monday morning, Dayanand started the crusher machine. He found some problems with the movement of crusher belt. While trying to set right this mechanical fault, his head got stuck in the belt, and he died instantly, it is learnt.

In this connection, the police of the rural station here have registered a case of negligence against owner of the quarry, Bola Prasad Kamath, and manager, Sandeep S Shetty.  Assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai, circle inspector, G M Naykar, station house officer, Shetty, and other police personnel visited the site and collected detailed information.

Post mortem was conducted at the taluk government hospital by the doctor of Nitte primary health centre, Anant Kamath. On the basis of a complaint filed by the nephew of the deceased, Irvathur Satish Devadiga, a case of negligence in discharge of duties was filed under Indian Penal Code section 304 (A) against the above two persons.

The policemen here have normally followed the practice of getting the post mortem of person who dies under suspicious circumstances done through the forensic laboratory of Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. However, the fact that post mortem was conducted in a hurry by using the services of the medical officer of a primary health centre here has given rise to doubts.
