The damage caused by heavy rains continues as one house each at Prashant Baug in Alape and Ullal Kotepura area near here collapsed.

District in-charge minister B Nagraj Shetty on Friday June 2 compensated for the loss by issuing cheques to those who were affected by rain in the last five days. He handed over ten cheques at a meeting held in the district office here. People who lost their houses received Rs 10,000 while those whose houses were partially damaged were given Rs 6000. A fisherman of Bhatkal whose vessel was capsized on May 29 will also receive a cheque.

In the last 24 hours, ending at 8 am on Friday June 2, the total rainfall recorded in the district was 62.4 mm while the average rainfall was 12.4 mm. Beltangady received the mazimum rainfall of 22.2 mm while Puttur received rainfall of 17.2 mm, Mangalore 13.6 mm, Bantwal 13.2 mm and Sullia 8.2 mm.
