Sharjah, June 3: The prestigious 'Mayura Prashasthi' presentation and 3rd Anniversary celebration of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah was held on Friday 2nd June 2006 at Asian Palace Hall, Sharjah with pomp and gaiety.
 
The glittering  programme started with melodious Kannada orchestra by Krishna Raj Thanthri and party. The inaugural prayer was sung by Prabhakar shenoy and party followed by welcome dance.

 Karnataka Sangha Sharjah Vice President Prabhakara Ambalthere welcomed a gathering of around three hundred.
Sathish Poojary, Secretary Karnataka Sangha Sharjah gave a brief report of the various activities and programmes done by the Sangha during the past three years.

The event was spiced with colorful vibrant dance by children for kannada and konkani songs.

All the dignitaries Thumbey Moideen, President Gulf Medical College, M.K.Madhavan, President, Indian Association Sharjah, K.T.Sreedar, Retired School Teacher and Journalist, ‘MAYURA PRASHASTI 2006’ award winners Shekar Shetty, Owner of Arab Udupi, chain of restaurants and Irshad Moodbidri, literary celebrity, Ashok Shetty last year ‘MAYURA PRASHASTI’ winner, Sarvotham Shetty President Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi, Mark Denis D’souza patron of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Ganesh Rai President Karnataka Sangha Sharjah were present on the dais.


Mark Denis D’souza patron of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, speaking on the occasion remembered colorful & unforgettable social worker Late Umesh Nanthoor which was instituted by the Sangha when he was the President is being awarded every year to the most deserving Non Resident Kannadigas of the Emirates for their out-standing contribution to the society in various fields, he also stressed on unity and also support among kannadigas to recognize and encourage all the talented kannadigas.



 Traditional lighting of the lamp was done by all the dignitaries present in the dais.
 
Ganesh Rai President Karnataka Sangha Sharjah thanked M.K.Madhavan, President, Indian Association Sharjah for his whole hearted support and encouragement given by him for the Sangha, he also thanked Tumbay Moideen, President Gulf Medical College for his support, he also requested all the gathering to work on developing the kannada culture and also teach the young generation about kannada language and culture.



 

The highlight of the day presenting of the prestigious ‘MAYURA PRASHASTI 2006’ was in a very traditional style. Shekar Shetty - an unassuming publicity shy Patron of Kannada cultural activities and Owner of Arab Udupi, chain of restaurants and Irshad Moodbidri - media shy pleasant natured literary celebrity were honored with this award.
Shekar Shetty thanked the Sangha for this honor and appreciated the committee members of this Sangha for such a glittering program. He also said that the first aerodrome, first cricket match india vs pakistan, First seaport, first arab udupi restaurant and first MAYURA PRASHASTI was started in his Sharjah.



 
Irshad Moodbidri in his speech said that it was the first time any Sangha has recognized his work and felicitated him, and it has given him more inspiration and he will work hard for the development of kannada language, he thanked each and everyone for all the support rendered.
 
Befitting the occasion Sangha also felicitated the media persons who have excelled in their profession by reflecting various activities most colorfully and worked hard for the upliftment of all the languages of Karnataka in the Emirates. This is the first time any Sangha has felicitated persons from media. Prabhakara Ambalthere – who aired first Kannada Radio (KOD), and Sujay Bendore {Daijiworld & Gulfvarthe) were the honoraries.




K.T.Sreedar, Retired School Teacher and Journalist said he was happy to see the love for the kannada language in this part of the world.

Sarvotham Shetty President Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi, congratulated all the award winners and appreciated the committee members of the Sangha who has arranged the entire program in kannada.


The morning session was concluded with a sumptuous lunch.
 
The afternoon session started with colorful and glittering cultural programs,
 
Magic Show by Prashanth rai mesmerized the audience,
Stomach churning hilarious skit by Sudhkar thumbey team and Jagannath Bellare team, also entertaining dance for the tune of kannada songs was well appreciated by the audience.

Utham Menezes and Hema hosted with outstanding enthusiasm throughout the program.
 
Spot games, raffle draw were very much blended into the program.
“Kannadiga of the year” went to Mark Denis D’souza patron of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah.
 
Prizes were given to all the children’s who participated in the program.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Sathish Poojary.

One of the notable fact was, the entire programme had been presented in kannada and also the monthly news edition “Mayura” published in kannada, the appreciation should go to the President Ganesh Rai , Back bone for the success   of todays programme were Noel Almeda , Stanley B Mathias, Sathish Poojary, Ramanand Poojary, Raju Bandary, Sujay Bendore, Prabakara Ambalthare ,and all the committee members of Karnataka  Sangha Sharjah in the professionalism shown by arranging the  programme which was within the  schedule.
