Mangalore, Mar 11: The 7th Annual Athletic Meet -2014 was held at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore on March 6 in the college grounds.
The athletic meet was conducted for students, teaching and non-teaching staffs of the college.
Chander Mani DGM, MRPL was the chief guest for the inaugural programme. Fr Joseph Lobo – director, Fr Ajith Menezes – asst director, Fr Rohith D’Costa – asst director were the guests of honour of the programme.
The programme was presided by Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal of the college. Dr Rio D’Souza, vice-principal and Dr Ramananda, sports advisor were the other dignitaries on the dais.
The sports day commenced with the beautiful march past by the students for drum beats of St Raymond School Band.
Elizabeth Cheriyan IV yr CS (Athlete, Power lifter) led the whole college, Abhilash IV yr Mech (Foot baller, Athlete), Oswald IV yr CS (Volley baller), Dhanvarsh IV yr Mech (Power lifter,) and Manoj IV yr Mech (Athlete, Volley baller) marched with the college flag followed by the all classes starting from MBA, MCA, and B E classes.
The college choir group led the invocation. Srinath Acharya, assistant professor , Department of Information Science & Engineering welcomed the gathering. Followed by the flag hoisting by the chief guest, torch ceremony led by Deepak II yr Civil (Medal Winner in Wrestling) and the torch was taken round the playground by Clran Martis II yr E&C (Medal Winner Athlete), then Manoj Kumar II yr E&E (Medal Winner Athlete) Joyal I yr Civil (Medal Winner Athlete) handed over the torch to the chief guest to declare the meet open. Balloons were released into the sky by the director, assistant directors and chief guest.
Manoj Kumar T II yr E&E (medal winner athlete) took the oath on behalf of all the participants. As mark of celebration 10 Kadina traditional crackers were lit out. Dr Ramananda H. S. Chair person sports committee proposed the vote of thanks.
The closing of the ceremony of annual athletic meet was held at 4:30pm . Assistant director, Fr Ajith Menezes was the chief guest. Nithin Haraje – Faculty from Computer Science and Engineering welcome the gathering.
Fr Joseph Lobo, director SJEC preside over the function. Vaneesha V Rodrigues -physical director gave the vote of thanks and Shailesh Kumar -physical director conducted prize distribution ceremony.
Mohith of first year Civil Engineering in men and Shrutha of second year Information Science Engineering in women were the individual championships. The college flag was lowered and the meet was declared closed and concluded with the National Anthem.
