Mangalore, Mar 12: Second pre-university examinations, which are crucial for deciding the future of the students aspiring to pursue technical, medical, and other courses, have begun today. These examinations will be held between March 12 and 27.
In Dakshina Kannada district, ten special squads have been formed to detect irregularities if any at examination centres. The district has 49 examination centres. 7008 students have opted for arts subjects, 15,213 have taken commerce subjects, while 11,964 are pursuing science courses. A total of 34,185 students have registered themselves for this year’s PU examination from the district. Out of them, 16,683 are boys, and 17,502 girls.

The district administration has undertaken elaborate measures to ensure smooth conduct of this examination. In addition to vigilance squads, a team led by the deputy director of PU education at the district level will be keeping close watch on the movement of question papers. The ten special squads will have president and three members each, and these squads will conduct surprise visits to the examination centres. PU College principals have been designated as presidents of these teams, while teaching staff, who act as members, will be giving suggestions.
Four special squads will be making rounds in 24 centres under Mangalore and Moodbidri blocks, while two teams each have been allotted nine centres in Putur taluk and eight in Bantwal. Two other teams will be monitoring examinations in eight centres spread over Beltangady and Sullia taluks.
Deputy director of PU education, K R Thimmaiah, said that prohibitory orders under section 144 have been issued for a radius of 200 metres from each of these examination centres to discourage illegal activities.
