Kundapur, Mar 12: Shimoga MP, B Y Raghavendra, who happens to be the son of former Karnataka chief minister, B S Yeddyurappa, exuded confidence that his father will emerge as a clear winner in the coming Lok Sabha election. “India happens to be the largest democracy in the world, and this election will be second after Byndoor constituency was brought under Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency. After I was elected as MP from this constituency in the last election, over Rs 750 crore had been brought to Byndoor in the form of various grants. Byndoor constituency has seen lot of development during my term,” he claimed.

He was addressing a press conference convened at Hotel Jewel Park at Hemmady near here on Tuesday March 11.

“Over Rs 2.5 crore had been released for the upgradation of Byndoor Mookambika railway station. Steps have also been taken to bring more grants for this purpose. When Yeddyurappa was the chief minister, every quintal of paddy commanded a price of Rs 2,500, whereas the price has come down to Rs 1,500 now. This reflects total failure on the part of the state government. On the other hand, inflation is omnipresent, and rice being supplied at one rupee per kilogram is driving people to hospitals,” Raghavendra analyzed.

Raghavendra announced that his father will be contesting this Lok Sabha election as BJP candidate from Shimoga constituency this timeand that being a staunch devotee of Guru Raghavendra, he would be filing nomination papers on Thursday.

He added that he had held preliminary talks with booth level office bearers of the party in a meeting held on Tuesday, and that he would be holding discussions with the party workers from Byndoor constituency on March 14. He also revealed that a meeting of BJP workers from Shiroor, Byndoor and Uppunda would be held the same evening at Uppunda, followed by another meeting for workers from Vandse and Trasi at 5.30 pm. Claiming that BJP is organizationally very strong in 240 booths of Byndoor assembly constituency, he claimed that steps would be taken to ensure that BJP gets lead in every booth.

Byndoor constituency BJP president, B M Sukumar Shetty, secretary, Sadanand Uppinakudru, Haddur Rajeev Shetty, and advocate, A B Shetty, were present.
