Mangalore, Mar 13: A new website for kidney and urology related issues was launched by Mangalorean doctor Dr Nischith D'Souza, on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2014 here in Mangalore on March 13.

The website with the url www.mangalorekidneyurologycare.com covers the entire range of kidney and urology health related issues mainly kidney stones, prostate enlargement, kidney failure etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nischith DSouza mentioned that Urology is a specialized surgical procedure involving the diagnosis and treatment of problems of male and female urinary tract and male reproductive organs. Access to good diagnosis and care is necessary. Hence the need for a dedicated website which provides specialized patient services, education and research to prevent kidney disease and promoting kidney and urology healthcare.

Dr Nischith Dsouza also reiterated the need for a healthy lifestyle and suggested five golden rules for healthy kidneys.  He suggested to consume adequate fluids, at least 1.5 – 2 litres per day, eat healthy and exercise regularly as it prevents obesity and reduces blood pressure, diabetes, kidney and heart diseases. He advised to keep the blood pressure and sugar levels under check as they are the commonest causes of kidney damage.

He further suggested to avoid smoking and taking pain killers without prescription as these may affect kidneys.

Finally if someone has these risk factors, one has to get his or her kidney function assesed for diabetes, hypertension, obesity and family history of kidney disease.
