Udupi: District Working Journalists’ Association protests against scribe’s assault

Udupi, Mar 14: The Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association held a protest on Thursday March 13 in front of the Clock Tower near Service Bus Stand against State energy minister D K Shivakumar for allegedly assaulting and filing a fake complaint of bribing against two working journalists of a state TV channel.

Addressing the gathering, Kiran Manjanabailu, president of the association, said, "Assault and arrest of two innocent journalists is inhuman. It is a political matter.” He condemned this cruel attitude of DKS. “The attitude of the state minister is illegal and inhuman. They have to be punished as per the Indian Constitution," he said.

Many other senior media persons also strongly criticized this incident by raising slogans against Shivakumar. TV9 Udupi district correspondent Yograj spoke in the protest. The gathered journalists demanded that the chief minister suspend Shivakumar.

Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association secretary Jayakar Suvarna, treasurer Umesh Marpalli, senior journalists Shashidhar Masthibail, Deepak Jain, Subhaschandra Wagle, and Naveen Kumar were present.
