Bangalore: 26,838 rowdies in state, 50 booked under Goonda Act: ADGP

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Mar 15: There are as many as 26,838 rowdies in the state, among whom 50 have been booked under the Goonda Act, informed additional DGP (law and order) M N Reddy.

Addressing a press conference at the DGP office here on Friday March 14, Reddy said that rowdies have been warned against indulging in any criminal activities during election time and said that surety bonds have been obtained from them in this regard.

He further said that 433 rowdies have been arrested for indulging in communal riots.

As many as 13,365 persons have been produced before the magistrates and further action has been taken, Reddy said.

The number of rowdies earlier was 17,935, and now it has risen to 26,838. "A close watch will be kept on every rowdy in the state. For the first time in the history of the state, 50 rowdies have been arrested under Goonda Act," he said.

"Between August 2013 and now, we conducted special investigation and booked 50 persons under the Goonda Act, among whom six were in Bangalore urban, one in Mangalore, four in Shimoga, four in Raichur, two in Hassan, 17 in Bangalore district, eight in Ramanagar, six in Tumkur, and two in Belgaum," he said.

"When Mangalore city police come with a request to book several rowdies under Goonda Act, it was our duty to take action in public interest, irrespective of the accused persons' religion or affinity to any organization," he added.

IGPs, police commissioners, SPs, DySPs and inspectors along with higher officials of the police department have been directed to keep a keen watch on persons indulging in rowdy activities, he added.

He further said that no one has been arrested as precautionary measure in the wake of elections.
However, as many as 62 central squads have been called to tighten security during the Lok Sabha elections. Reserve police forces from Kerala and Maharashtra will be called. Also, 53 KSRP platoons and 19,000 home guards will join the local police force.

Additional police security will be depoyed in Naxal affected areas, including Udupi-Chikmagalur, he said. Checkposts have been set up at border areas and round-the-clock checking is being undertaken, he said.

Rowdies are in such a large number that they can form their own Political party and name it as BRJP means Bharatiya Rowdy Janatha Party or INC means Indian National Criminals Party.
This new party can give tough fight to the Criminal Politicians already existing in BJP, Cong, SP,RJD, JDS and other Regional parties.

All the 26,838 rowdies in the state must be stamped with serial no. on their forehead (Goonda no.1 to Goonda no. 26,838.). Police must computerize their daily movement. Train them and utilize them in war, road construction work etc.

Instead of keeping them behind the scene, police made them to know each other. Even few of them might exchanged the contact information who are not met or known before.
I don't advice or see any advantage of gathering a antisocial elements in the crowd instead will make all of them more interactive as well more close to participate in future crimes.

I hope the govt. will create a rehabilitation center as well a job opportunity to those to train them to live with dignity.

Out of these many almost 23,000 - 24,000 plus rowdies raised their ugly head during the BJP's rule in Karnataka as Law & order was outsourced to Senas and Dala thugs.
BJP used to pay them and look after them.

Let's not forget how BJP encouraged right wing hooligans to take law & the order into their hands...something similar to what Shiv sena did in '93 riots.

The numbers may have increased dramatically in the earlier 5 year period as there was very little governance\control but lot of encouragement to these type for Masters' political gain. Police were really hand-tied during that period...!! What one can expect with such political parties coming to power!!!

Most of these 'rowdies', belong to either a SENE or VEDIKE.
Political parties make use of poor, unemployed and uneducated youth to their political gains.
They lure them money and get their plans uted by these youth.
And when these youth are caught, the political party or ideological group distances itself from them.
I really feel bad for these youth.
Education is the only solution to such problems.

The figure is alarming."26,838" Am sure this is who are on record. How about unrecorded rowdies ? There should be a strict rule in this country that every adult should compulsory work for 8 hours. This is the result of non-working and making easy money - swindling from others.
We have not utilized(past as well as present) the freedom properly.

Make your work simple Officer shoot at sight for these goons, don’t worry about human rights, because this Goonda Act was known to curb rowdy elements involved in activities like extortion. But nonbelievers fear that these representative Goonda will soon be released, if they are jailed at all to offend again...Because they have the support of Politician...

Our Police needs to be Proactive rather than reactive for an incident to occur and then take action. Neither a gone life can come back nor the lost respect of women.
Police should start "Rowdy Pratibandhaka Dala" in Karnataka.
