Rubber plantation catches fire; over 10 acres destroyed

Bantwal, Mar 17: An accidental fire consumed large tracts of a rubber plantation in Mundamale Pervai Vittla on Sunday March 16.

The 35-acre rubber plantation belongs to K K John caught fire and 10 acres had been destroyed by the time the fire was detected.  People from the vicinity pitched in to douse the fire.

This is the second incident within a week. The earlier incident had destroyed 1,500 rubber plants.

The incident caused maximum damage to the planter.

As the place is very far from Vittla town, the fire service had to be rushed in from BC Road, or Mangalore.  Sources also said that the supervisor who saw the fire had fainted.
