Mangalore: Cloistered Carmel chapel inauguration to be held on Mar 18

Mangalore, Mar 17: The Carmelite nuns of the Sacred Heart Monastery Cloistred Carmel will celebrate the blessing and inauguration of the renovated chapel building on Tuesday March 18 at 5pm.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’souza will preside over the celebration of the Eucharist along with Carmelite provincial Fr Archibold Gonsalves and other priests.

The chapel building at Kankanady began with six discalced Carmelite nuns along with two Carmelite priests and three other nuns who embarked on a journey from Pau, France to Mangalore under the leadership of Vicar Apostolic Mangalore Mgr Marie Ephrem.

The new carmel building was inaugurated in 1882 with donations and help from across the world.

The cloistered nuns have vowed to devote their life to prayer and silence. Along with praying for the church and for the needs of people, the nuns are responsible for the preparation of the sacramental bread for the entire diocese of Mangalore.

All faithful including parishioners of the city are invited to the inaugural.

    Congratulations to the Carmelite nuns and priests on the beautiful renovated chapel. We have to specially thank the Carmelite sisters for their dedicated prayers for all our intentions and the intentions of the whole world. In this present day world we still have such committed nuns who sacrifice their entire life to the Lord. May God bless them abundantly.
