Mangalore, Mar 18:  Noted poet and literature Dr Vasanthkumar Perla has been selected for  Vishweshwarayya national award for literature for his work ‘Oddolaga’ (collection of poems in Kannada). 

His work has been adjudged as the best work in the field of Kannada poetry for this year.  The award carries Rs 3,000/- cash, a felicitation and plaque.

As noted by the juries, the collection ‘Oddolaga’ deals with political and social subjects in a typical narrative and portrays a different dimension.  The brevity and consciousness  in writing, the idioms and similies used in the poems are novel and unique. 

Dr Vasanthkumar Perla has been writing poetry for the last 30 years and has bagged several other awards.  He  has written around 25 books in Kannada including poetry, short stories, novels, literary criticisms, research articles etc.

He is currently working as the assistant station director and head of programme at All India Radio, Mangalore.
