Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (DV)

Udupi, Mar 18: A private bus plying from Udupi to Mangalore broke down causing a traffic jam for almost an hour near Pangala bridge on national highway 66 here on Monday March 17.

The bus broke down due to a fault in the axle.

The bus was full, with most passengers on their way to work or colleges and schools. Sources said that owing to the bus driver's alertness, an accident was averted.

The bus broke down at around 8.15 am and the traffic jam continued until 9.45 am. The traffic jam posed a problem for vehicles plying from Kaup to Udupi and vice-versa. Most of the commuters tried to resort to shortcuts to reach their destination.

Daily commuters and especially students suffered the most. Some of them were seen getting out of vehicles and choosing to walk the distance.
