Mangalore, Jun 6: "All are speaking about social justice.  But what kind of social justice are we following now?  There are 89% people belonging to the OBC class whereas only 11% represent the higher class.  But when it comes to reservation it is 50:50.  Is this social justice?  The 11% of the population controls the other 89% in all the fields," said Rajya Sabha member and KPCC former president Janardhan Poojary.

He was speaking at a press conference here in the city on Monday June 5.

He strongly supported the union government's decision to raise the reservation seats for OBC group in the IIMs, IITs, IIS and other institutions.  At the same time he blasted the anti-quota movement and said that some individuals are using these students for their personal gains. 

"Right now most of the students entering into these institutions are from both financially as well as socially higher class.  But after completing their studies most of them fly abroad and settle down there.  So most of them have not been contributing anything constructive to country's growth," he added.

When told about the complaints that reservations would bring down the quality of these prestigious institutions, he said that they are clearly undermining the capacity of the lower class.  "President APJ Abdul Kalam, K R Narayanan, Dr Zakhir Hussain etc all were from this group.  Weren't they capable?" he asked.

Right now the 11% people are protesting against the 89% populace of the country.  But if it happens in reverse order then surely there will be a lot of problem in the country in the coming days.

State Minority Commission president K S Mohammad Masood, ZP president Mamata D S Gatti, corporators Purandaradas Kulur, Lancelot Pinto and others were present on the occasion.
