Mangalore: Tree falls on moving auto rickshaw, driver injured

Mangalore, Mar 18: A tree fell on a moving auto rickshaw near Jyothi theatre here on Tuesday March 18 evening, injuring the driver.


The injured has been identified as Padmanabha Shetty (48), a resident of JM Road, Bajal.

He was driving his auto rickshaw from Light House Hill towards Balmatta when the tree near Jyothi theatre got uprooted and fell on his auto.

There were no passengers in the auto rickshaw at the time of the incident. Padmanabha sustained injuries on his right hand and was admitted to hospital.

The auto was damaged and tangled among the branches of the tree.

Fire personnel arrived at the spot and cleared the tree.

    We can say it’s a miraculous escape for the driver from major injury to life. Glorify Almighty God.

    From the condition of the fallen tree it is understood that the tree had reached its normal expected Lifecycle.

    The Authorities should identify/remove all the aging trees around Mangalore Corporation and replace by young healthy trees. This will help avoid future disasters and damage to property/human life and also in maintaining the natural beauty and other benefits.

    Some people are protesting not to cut down the trees in the city limit because of this kind of accidents occur and the road widening works are stopped. we need to cut down the trees in the city limit, if you want good roads and safety for the drivers.

    Mr. John,
    I agree with you that cities cannot have trees as we all want sophisticated roads to cater to our needs, but do they really replace these trees elsewhere is a big question mark, and for your information you cannot live without trees, it's a simple logic.

    we are so good in postmortem. Nobody bothered seeing such a big and dry tree standing like a giant straight above the main road. All officials, corporation officers didn't bother to take any proactive action. now it's fallen and fortunately no major fatalities. why don't you locate such dangerous trees around the city and take action in advance. or you want all such trees, alert voluntarily following on the roads or vehicles damaging them.

    Forest officials shd identify old trees and weak branches on the road side and cut for safety of public with help city Corpn.

    I was riding with my colleague in a Scooty and suddenly the wooden crushes fell on us. At a time, my colleague forced me to the side a vehicle onto footpath. This is how we saved and thanks to Allah. AlhamduLillah.
