Mangalore, Jun 6: The results of the Gram Panchayat by-elections held on Sunday June 4 were declared on Monday June 5 evening here. Counting was held at Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Beltangady and here.
BJP backed candidates won the 21 out of 45 seats while Congress backed candidates won 17 and JD(S) supported candidates bagged 7 seats.
In results in the city GP polls, six candidates backed by Congress won while five candidates supported by BJP and two by JD(S) won the elections.
In Beltangady, three candidates backed by Congress and three by BJP won while two candidates supported by JD(S) registered victory.
Election in Sullia was held only Sampaje seat, which was won by Congress backed Suresh Kunhikodu.
In Puttur, BJP registered a sweeping win by bagging all the seven seats. A total of nine seats were vacant to which candidates backed by BJP were elected unopposed in Bilinele and Ramakunja GPs.
