Udupi, Mar 18: Jayaprakash Hegde, MP, Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, addressed a press meet on Tuesday March 18 and listed out the development work undertaken during his tenure as MP.

He said that he undertook several developmental works and programmes during his regime of a year and one month. He stressed that he had experience as a labor minister and fisheries minister and as district-in-charge minister and added that he would strive to perform even better in the future.

Hegde said that the ABVP had appealed for the starting of a branch of Mangalore University in Udupi town, and the same can be found at Thenkanidiyur.

During the press meet, he elaborated on funds used for projects and said, “Nearly Rs 10 crore was granted for projects and Rs 2.50 crore worth of work is yet to be completed. We had collected Rs 30 lac from ministers, Rs 10 lac from Jayaram, and Rs 5 lac from Jayashree. A total of Rs 1.50 lac of relief funds were spent on medical services.”

He also claimed credit for his party for implementing the RTI Act and compulsory education for those in the age group 6-14 years. He said that the government passed four bills such as Jan Lokpal Bill, land acquisition bill, food security and safety measures, and added that he also undertook development of Udupi especially Brahmavar area.

“There is no need to worry about the expansion of roads from Udupi to Manipal city. We will retain it as it is. But in future, we will make some alternatives as per traffic demands. There are no documents to uphold the ban on arecanut,” he said in answer to the media persons. Hegde added that he also strove for NRIs' right to vote and for contesting of elections for primary and high school teachers.

“The BJP is raising needless issues for its own benefit. Development means not only construction of roads but also the growth of the deprived classes,” he added.

Rajesh Shetty Birthi, Ramesh Kanchan, Gopal Poojary, district president, Krishnamurthy, district spokesperson, and Bhaskar Rao were present.

I am not speaking for any party but I want to inform to the people of Udupi to a Leader who will work for you and your Constituency . If you look at the Party , Caste and religion and Vote you will be a looser .Even if you think that Narendra Modi should come to Power and you Vote for Shobha, you will all regret one day as Shobha will not work for any good to happen to you all nor Modi will come to your rescue People of Udupi should think and vote .After all we saw what BJP did after they came to Power in Karnataka. There was no diffrence done here .So whether Congress or BJP in Centre , both the parties will be corrupt . So , its better you dont loose your Sincere
MP J .P. Hegde who may atleast work for you for another 5 years. In Mangalore Mr Vasudeva should be elected to power . He may atleast work for the betterment of the people .

Also lets us think about the past .Even if had a Good Leader like Vajpayee , did things change .It is every MP in India that needs to be taken in to count to see a Change and non corrupt .

Why all of sudden this Udupi-Thirthalli (via Agumbe) road’s issues rose? Surprising !!!

Four laning of SH52 (Kundapura-Thirthalli which connects Shimoga Dist.) is pending since last 3 decades !!!! This is one of oldest and Kundapura’s one and only the state highway.

None of the political leaders showing interest !!

As this is a long pending issue:- Even people are mentally well prepared here for land acquisition activities. All newly built houses left enough space for future acquisition & even real estate business (all land link agents & owners) people conveying message to buyer that there will 60 to 80 feet land acquisition !!!

I am not only complaining JPH here, even Haladi has not taken the proper initiative for much required cause !!!

What a contrast in congress candidates. Udupi candidates talks sense and Mangalore candidate talks nonsense. One gains the votes by opening his mouth while other loses.
    Udupi people are fortunate.
Hegde should coach JP ! Or he need a brain surgery?

Good Job JPH. More than all these things which you listed out i like the you visit all gram panchayaths on a regular basis. very rare to see MP's doing that. Most of the MP's spend their time in delhi. JPH was always available for people when in need. We are all set to give you 5 more years of MP tenure in udupi-chikmlore . Mostly you will end up being in opposition party, but please continue the good work. Wish you success.

J.P Hegde will be an asset to Udupi and Chickmaglur. Look at Nalin whose performance has been below average, he has barely been there for Mangaloreans when it mattered the most and people of Mangalore have not got any benefits from him during his tenure.

Electing J.P. Hegde will be in the best interest of Udupi and he will ensure that development projects are implemented and economy of the region improves.

Dear N M, just compare the list and funds utilized from MP quota between Nalin vs. Hegde or other CONGiss MPs’ in our region and you will come to know the truth…… Average or Below Average can be calculated when people works. When people don’t works at all, there is no calculation can be done. No doubt Hegde not got enough time to works but that’s not the excuse. When he has his own Party Government at Central and now in State, he could have done much more than anybody else. Now we are mid of March only but in Udupi region we get water only once in a two days!!!! So what will happen when we enter April and May????

@Sachidanand, The fact remains that Nalin's performance has been negligible and below average.

Infact like his predecessors, I.e.Smilenand Gowda and Dhananjay he too has only tried to appease Kalladka Bhat...he has failed to represent the cross section of Mangalorean society.

Where was he during communal conflicts? Answer, he was on the side of the perpetrators or the attackers. He played no role to develop our airport, tourism, seaport or improve urban infrastructure or even attract FDI and Foreign companies in our company. He has very little interaction with teh business community and industrialist in teh region. He is influenced by radical people who live without a vision and are best to deliver speeches which divide our small Mangalorean community.

If he has no idea, he should have seen the work of U. Srinivas Mallya or even JPH and one something.

If JP can arrange for 7.5 crores of work in 13 months, how much more Nalin could have arranged more in his 5 year tenure. The answer was staggering 37.5 crore. But how much did he spend?.. a mere 9.5 crore. so what was the excuse for this lapse? Was he not working either?

Why make only list, we know very well how many developmental works carried out during your tenure. What about NH66 completion works? Where about present Transport Minister Oscar Mamu? RTE Act implication!!! Few of your own Party’s Community Schools refused to give admission in Karnataka. Only a total of Rs 1.50 lakh spent from relief funds for medical services? Is it a big achievement? How much funds you utilized from your MP quota? Don’t worry people already made a list of Candidates to vote in our Karnataka. You rush with relief funds packet only at your Party’s will but not a principle in general

Not only that Dear Kenneth, one month back Rahul Baba went to Amethi and local people complained about road networks in their region, immediately Baba ordered Mamu to rush and undertake the road works in his region. Here we can see two things, first one, Rahul himself doesn’t know the road condition in his constituency until he visited recently and secondly, if Oscar Mamu can carry out road task in Amethi region then why not NH66?

    Dear JP Hegde,
There may be pressure from the BJP (Shobhakka led protest) to discard or go slow on Malpe - Thirthally Highway widening project through Udupi.
Don't bow down to pressure they just want to STOP development.
But overall people, including from hinterland want development and connectivity.
Highway can't be widened without land acquisition. Adjoining Land will appreciate and loss of land can be compensated through money or land elsewhere. Infrastructure development is must for any State.

I do not like Congress, but like J.P.Hegde,MP for his simplicity, commitment for his duties/concern for people and his capabilities. He not only works for his constituency, but also cares for Mangalore whenever a situation arises which we have seen in respect of development of the Mangalore airport into a international status.Whatever he intends to do does it with devotion but without fanfare. That's why he is a peoples leader in the true sense.During the bye election to Udupi-Chik constituency, there were some unusual events happened.Meetings were held in support of him involving minority faction in majority Hindu community. There was polarisation of votes in favour of J.P.Hegde due to the involvement of minoty faction of majority. In todays time getting a good candidate as MP is very difficult across the political spectrum.I feel that J.P.Hedge is a exceptional candidate.People can count on him.
I wish that people will let him down in this time too.

Educated people of the place cast your valuable vote to the right candidate irrespective of party...he / she belongs. JPH deserves a second chance as an MP.

J P Hegde you have claimed that it is due to your efforts the Manglore Kachiguda (Hyderabad) train was started.
Surprisingly, this train after leaving Mangalore directly enters Kerala and then nowhere it touches Karnataka and reaches Hyderabad after 32 Hours. That train is only useful to Kerala and it never touches even a single station in your own Udupi Constituency. So,are you representing Kerala or Karnataka ?

All voters pls rethink. Think about the constituency, honesty, representation. If you find anybody better than JPH, pls vote for them. We are lucky we have such a candidate. Tried, tested and proved.Imagine a new MP for another 1825 days. The new MP will not work for you. They do only politics, money,You cant approach them easily. They are all big leaders. They never worked for this constituency and not in the future. Next time they will send one more new Candidate and give you new hopes.Gone are the days party specific winning. The people's friendly representative should win.
