Customs officials seize GBP worth Rs 3.45 lac from Dubai-bound passenger

Mangalore Mar 19: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport seized 3400 GBP worth Rs 3,45,950 possessed illicitly by the passenger, who concealed inside the personal clothing kept in check- in baggage.
.
Passenger identified as Nellikunnu Abdulla Jamalu resident of Thalangara Kasargod.
 
Customs officers took Nellikunnu  Abdulla Jamalu from Mangalore International Airport  while who was about to depart from Mangalore to Dubai by Jet Airways at 7:30 in Jet Airways flight 9W532 to Dubai.
 
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Pravin Vinod, Assistant  Commissioner of Customs in Mangalore International Airport.
 
During the course of investigation, it has been found that the above passenger was involved in smuggling of gold at other airports.

Further investigation is in progress under the guidance of D Purushotham Commissioner of Customs in Mangalore International Airport.

    Smugglers are born with innovative ideas.

    May be he bought GBP by making use of black money in India and was taking GBP to Dubai to purchase gold and bring the same to India.

    Bad luck losing both at entry and exit points.

    USD 5000/- i.e. RS 3 lac is allowed per passenger.... This is more than that limit.... If it is more than the limit passenger has to .
    Why we Indians will take maximum advantage of any rule??????

    I believe foreign exchange is governed by a rule called Foreign Exchange Management Act, which prohibits taking foreign exchange beyond a limit out of the country. The beyond a limit is governed by the Authorized Dealers of Foreign Exchange. For a person who can go online, i think it would be easier to read the guidelines.
